Machine Payments Protocol
Stripe and Tempo’s rival machine-payments protocol (MPP), live since 18 March and backwards-compatible with x402.
Checked 11 October
Our view
Measured MPP use was small (about $25,000 over 115,000 transactions to 21 April, per Visa), but its threat is distribution: Stripe’s docs say machine payments work best with MPP and list x402 on Base only, so a Stripe merchant who only wants stablecoins is steered away from Base. AWS and Cloudflare already support both protocols. The research did not score rivals; these labels are the site’s reading of the dated evidence.
